MANCHESTER ARMS

The Neighborhood
The Manchester is located at 1412 Summit Ave in Seattle, Washington. The building actually sits on the border between Capitol Hill and First Hill, though most residents say they reside on "The Hill" (Capitol Hill).

Only $375 a night Just a few blocks south is Swedish Medical Center on Madison Street, considered the hub of "Pill Hill" (an area with a multitude of hospitals). Pharmacies, banks and eateries abound here. One block west of Swedish is the Sorrento Hotel, arguably the most regal of accommodations on the West Coast. One block east on Madison you'll find yourself on the most beautiful campus of Seattle University.

JIMIBut the real action lies a few blocks north and west of the Manchester. Broadway is the main drag on Capitol Hill. If you can't find it there, it doesn't exist. Theaters (film and stage), restaurants, banks, clubs, department stores, clothiers, fast food, a post office, video stores, a pool hall/bowling alley and Seattle Central Community College. Oh, and did I mention cafes.

In the middle of Broadway is the Broadway Market; with a hip clothing shop, a gym, and a huge grocery store. On Broadway itself there are nDick's Drive-Ino less than 3 supermarkets to gather your groceries, a Hollywood Video and a Blockbuster Video to choose between, and the world famous Dick's Drive-In. If hamburgers aren't your thing you can get a falafel, a piroshky, pad thai, sate, a bowl of pho or a decadent dessert at Dilettante Chocolates.

SIFF MapCapitol Hill also hosts the annual Seattle International Film Festival. Growing every year in size and popularity it is one of the premiere film festivals in the world... and all right outside the front door of the Manchester Arms. Capitol Hill also hosts the Fringe Festival; a 3 week engagement of stage performances from 1-act plays to Shakespeare's Othello.

Hammering ManWhile Pill Hill and Broadway are just a few steps away, Downtown Seattle is even more accessible. It takes longer to ride the bus Downtown than it does to walk there. Seattle is becoming an international city and the construction and improvements to downtown area show it: The underground Bus Tunnel, the World Class Hotels and Restaurants, the Westlake Center Mall, the Seattle Art Museum, Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square.

But the most exciting feature of the neighborhood is the immediate area just in front of the building; the cherry blossoms in Spring as you walk up the street to the Manchester are breathtaking, the cobblestone road turns back the clock to another time, and the old schoolhouse across the road with its well-groomed flowers and open courtyard allows the street to meet the sky for most of the day.
